President’s Message Fall 2022

It’s Back to School time and Back to CB55+! It’s so nice to see our members (at least those who don’t think of this as Back to Travel time) returning to the Centre to resume our fall activities—welcome back!

A full complement of our regular activities have returned and our first full day of fall programmingwas onWednesday, September 7th. and we also have a number of new offerings to check out.Watch for the return of iPhone/iPad courses, atour of the BC Legislature, and a new round of intermediate bridge lessons. Maybe this is a time to try something new. There are lots of things available: from the Art Group to Wednesday Evening Games (and everything in between) as well as our Tuesday Drop Ins and the Blue Heron Café lunches.

We’re also hoping to soon see some of those activities that have been sorely missed during Covid such as the Blue Heron Singers and the Intergenerational program. . Stay tuned for more information.

Regular office hours have resumed from 9:00 am – noon, Monday to Friday.

The search has continued over the summer for a new fitness instructor to teach an Osteofit-type class and a more Active Women’s Fitness class. This is a contract position that we are most anxious to fill, but one that seems to have suffered from the worker shortages arising out of Covid. If you know of a qualified instructor, please pass along this need. Further information available from

At our Special Membership Meeting held in June, both spending initiatives (for AV upgrades and a contingency fund for large appliances) were approved overwhelmingly. The AV work has been ongoing throughout the summer and should be finished in the fall, subject to equipment deliveries.

Thank you to all those volunteers who helped out at our three special events that happened over the summer: the new Greek on the Street (hosted by the Golf Group); the summer BBQ (hosted by the Men’s Group) and the fabulous Corn Roast (hosted by the Walking Group.) We appreciate all the effort and teamwork that go into successful events such as these which give us all an opportunity to socialize over the summer.

Progress has been slower than hoped on the new website, but work moves forwardon it and we hope to be able to unveil it soon. Thank you for your understanding as the present website has suffered a little neglect in the process.

Anew service that is coming to the Centre this fall is the introduction of the Square payment system in the office. This will make it easier for all your transactions to be completed with the tap of a card. Members will be encouraged to use a debit card rather than a credit card to reduce costs for the organization. Thank you for your assistance.

See you at the Centre!
