Check out what Cordova Bay 55+ has to offer!

Tuesday Drop-In

Tuesday Drop-In is an opportunity for members to gather and listen to an engaging speaker discuss various topics of interest, or celebrate a special occasion. It is an important part of the week for many CB55+ members – a chance to socialize and meet new friends, a chance to laugh and learn, and to enjoy a coffee and treat!

Wednesday Lunch & Coffee Breaks

Join us for a delicious and reasonably-priced lunch every Wednesday from Sept-June and enjoy an opportunity to meet other CB55+ Members. Coffee and treats are also available Monday-Thursday mornings in the lounge and in the Big Room during Tuesday Drop-In.

Cordova Bay 55+ offers a wide variety of Special Interest Groups:

Art

The Art Group gathers weekly to create, support and inspire each other artistically, socially and personally. Artists work in many different media including: Watercolour, Acrylic, Oil, Pastel, Collage, Ink, Pen, and Pencil.

Pickleball

CB55+ has a very dedicated group of pickleball players, who play year-round both indoors and out!

Ukulele

This lively group of more than 30 plays and sings a wide variety of songs weekly. Players with beginner to advance-intermediate skill levels are welcome. The main focus is having fun and making music together!

Hiking

A chance to get out in nature, enjoy a good workout and often see some great scenery! Hikes are led by a variety of members.

Mah Jong

The Mah Jong Group plays both the Western and Hong Kong versions of the game, but welcomes new members who have played other styles as well.

Photography

The Photography Group takes photos on location around Greater Victoria and later shares and discusses the results. A range of cameras are used by members, including mobile phones.

Our Mission

To provide an inclusive volunteer organization for older adults that supports diverse areas of interest, across generations, to enrich the lives of our members and to act as a resource for the wider community.

OUR MEMBERS SAY IT BEST!

“The friendly atmosphere – the fact that it is both a social club and an activity club is amazing! Everyone feels welcome.”

“The opportunity to meet people and learn from them, and to create a community for helping others to stay healthy, have friendships and feel cared for!”

“The friendly people, the camaraderie, the wonderful opportunities offered, and the ability to learn from the engaging speakers at Tuesday Drop-In.”

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

There are over 700 members at CB55+ and we are a diverse group from all walks of life. We treasure all our members–whether they are newly retired or part of our Golden membership who are the magic age of 90 plus. Outside our regular activities, members can meet others in the lounge or maybe work on a jigsaw puzzle or browse through the library.

We offer almost 30 regular activities to keep you engaged and entertained. From pickleball to the book club to bridge or dominos and everything in between, there is always something new to try. Although we can be competitive, the emphasis is on creating a good social atmosphere and having fun!

From September to June we have a diverse schedule of weekly speakers at our regular ‘Tuesday Drop-In’. It is a social event and members enjoy coffee and conversation before the meeting begins. We celebrate special occasions on Tuesdays with the help of our many talented CB55+ members.

We offer courses to improve our skills, or to experiment with activities outside our normal pursuits. Bridge courses are always popular as we have a number of avid bridge players in our group. Saanich municipality also offers courses at the Centre–yoga, line dancing, and IPad and Iphone training, to name a few.

A number of our activities are focused on sport such as golf and pickleball–both very popular at CB55. We also have regular fitness classes for men and women at the Centre. The fitness classes are followed by a coffee break in the lounge so that the participants can get to know each other and collectively groan about how hard they exercised!

CB55+ has a very successful Intergenerational Program with the students at Cordova Bay Elementary School and we look forward its return post-Covid. We listen to students’ reading, coach them on knitting or photography or teach them sports–this program helps us connect across generations, stay active and be a presence in the children’s lives.
