Come to the CB55+ AGM – March 24!

Important News for CB55+ members:

Our AGM is scheduled for March 24th, 2015. This is the time the Board is elected for the coming year. We are seeking nominations for new Board members. Rand Harrison has kindly agreed to Chair the Nominating Committee and is currently appointing a small committee to help. If you are interested in standing for the Board, you are invited to contact him and discuss it with him. His email is We also accept nominations from the floor on the day of the AGM.

Each member with email will receive the official notification of the AGM along with the Agenda and Treasurer’s report. The phone committee will inform those without email, and information will also be in the Spring Blue Heron Newsletter. The reports from the President, the Treasurer, and the three Standing Committees (Programs, Services, and Governance) will be available in the Centre or on request at least two weeks prior to the AGM.

You will also receive notification of a Special Meeting, with a notice of motion, that will precede the AGM. Our Bylaws state that any expenditure over $3,000 must be approved by the membership. The Special Meeting will be to ask for approval of the purchase of a large television for the Big Room to replace the one that is there and move the television currently in the Big Room to the Studio. The motion and rationale will be included with the Agenda.

Don’t forget to register NOW for all the various courses that are being offered this Spring, and many will be starting early in March!  If members don’t register soon, some of these courses will be cancelled. The prices are low and the quality is high, and they are offered right in our own Centre, so take advantage of this opportunity to learn something new!  Ukulele lessons, Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), Microsoft Word and Excel, Stretch & Strength for Beginners, Portrait Sketching, etc. are just a few exciting courses being offered.  Check the CB55+ courses under the Courses heading in this website for more information. Saanich Recreation also offers popular courses for our members and the general public, such as Chair and Gentle Yoga, Line Dancing, and Zumba.  Check these out under Saanich Courses, as well.

Two new groups have started for CB55+ members:  “Walking with Dogs” meets on Friday mornings at various trailheads, whose members walk with other members and their dogs off-leash, and enjoy a variety of parks across the Greater Victoria area.  “Sunday Games” is a drop-in group for members to join others on the third Sunday of each month at the Centre to play card and board games and socialize with one another.  For more information, see the Groups category on this website.
