We are reopening!

June 8, 2021

We are pleased to be able to offer a phased-in return to activities at the CB55+ Centre.
BC’s Restart Plan announced on May 28th has allowed CB55+ to begin reopening the Centre for limited activities. We are working to expand permitted activities in a safe and gradual manner in accordance with the BC Restart Plan. We thank you for your patience as we work towards carefully opening up additional activities in a way that ensures the safety of our members. As more of our members receive their second vaccinations, we expect members will feel more comfortable getting back together and more groups will return to the Centre. The gradual resumption of activities is subject to change, as a result of any new Provincial Health Orders that may be issued.
The Office: The Office will resume regular hours in September. The office is now open Tuesday mornings only; however, phone messages and emails are monitored on a regular basis. New memberships, renewals and activities can be paid online (Pay for Activities Online tab above), by mail or on Tuesday mornings by appointment by contacting the office via e-mail at or by phone at 250-658-5558.
At the Centre: Fall Prevention, Studio, Art and Wednesday Bridge have started or have plans to start.

Outside the Centre: Walking with Dogs is continuing, the Walking Group will be restarting on June 18th with smaller group walks, and the Hiking Group will continue with smaller groups.

Ongoing Activities:
Ping Pong has been going strong and having lots of fun safe distanced in the courtyard.
Ongoing Golf is in full swing with two games per week that are always fully subscribed by enthusiastic members.
Pickle Ball has been having a lot of fun playing at McMinn Park.
Book Club has enjoyed meeting outside so much last summer that they plan to meet in Beaver Lake Park for June, July and August, weather permitting.
Happy Strummers have resumed outdoors.
Many other CB55 groups continue or plan to meet at outside locations through the good weather.
Men’s and Women’s Fitness, Fall Prevention, Digital Photography, Art Group, and Story Circle continue via Zoom at this time.

CB55+ Activities at the Centre suspended until further notice

March 1, 2021

While the Centre remains closed at this time we are optimistic that the Province’s vaccination program will allow us to be back together in person again in the not-too-distant future. Until that day, some of our activities are continuing via Zoom and we are keeping in touch via email communication updates and this website. Please check out the Spring Edition of the Blue Heron News to update yourself on what’s new with CB55+ (click on the Blue Heron News tab at the top of this page).

The Board has met regularly to conduct the Association’s business and we are currently preparing for the Annual General Meeting scheduled for March 23, 2021 to be conducted via Zoom. The Notice of Meeting and the full package of AGM reports are now posted on the AGM Information tab at the top of this page. The AGM Notice and information package are being sent out on March 4th via email and regular mail to those without an email address on file.

Reminder: Membership renewal for 2021 is due by March 31st for $30 after which it will be at the regular rate of $40. Renew your membership on-line by clicking on the Renew Membership Online tab at the top of this page.

January 18, 2021

2020 was certainly a challenging year for us all.  While our social connections are still extremely limited, there is an end in sight and we look forward to the day when we can spend time with you all again!

The extension of BC’s health orders until February 5th means that the Centre will remain closed for the time being.  Special Interest Groups that are able to meet via Zoom continue during the closure, including men’s and women’s fitness classes.  CB55+’s e-mail account is checked on a regular basis and incoming mail is processed while the office is closed.  The Board continues to monitor the situation and conduct our monthly meetings  via Zoom to take care of CB55’s ongoing business.

November 20, 2020

In view of the new COVID-19 health orders introduced yesterday, Nov. 19th, 2020, by Dr. Bonnie Henry and also our vulnerable population group, we have made the difficult decision to suspend all CB55+ activities that take place at the Centre while the orders are in force. Activities offered at the Centre by Saanich (line dancing and yoga) have been cancelled by Saanich.

Please ensure any CB55+ activities that take place outside the Centre (hiking, walking, pickleball, etc.) conform to current COVID-19 health orders. Note that social gatherings such as coffee breaks with CB55+ members outside your immediate bubble are restricted at this time.

Activities conducted via Zoom such as Men’s and Women’s Fitness and other individual Special Interest Groups will continue.

We hope that by December 7th BC cases will decline sufficiently to allow Dr. Henry to bring in more relaxed Covid health guidelines that will allow for the reopening of the Centre.

We sincerely thank you for your support during this difficult time! CB55+ Board Executive and CB55+ Reopening Committee

November President’s Message

November President’s Message

Halloween has come and gone and the shorter, cooler days are moving us back indoors. It was an enjoyable summer for those groups who were able to meet outdoors and we applaud our leaders for being creative. The Golf and Pickleball groups had record turnouts thanks to efforts of their leaders. The Happy Strummers, Art Group, Ping Pong, Walking Group and others met all through the summer but now we are able to cautiously move back indoors. It was wonderful to see some of your smiling faces back at the Centre last week with Barb Waldner leading the first Tuesday Morning Social in seven months. While we are proceeding cautiously with the gradual opening of the Centre following the Public Health Guidelines, some of our groups are continuing to meet electronically via Zoom and some are meeting both in person at the Centre and via Zoom.

The Board has continued to meet monthly to conduct the business of the Association. Our Communications team will be producing a monthly Update Letter replacing the weekly/biweekly Update Letters distributed over the past few months. The monthly Update Letter will Include a Board Report prepared by our Board Secretary, Sue Jergens.

I want to acknowledge and thank the dedicated volunteers that keep us in touch and have enabled us to reopen and to operate going forward. A special mention to Andrea Lindsay, Office Coordinator, for her dedication to keeping the administrative functions running smoothly.

Take care and stay healthy,

Stew Arnold

CB55+ Board Update May 20, 2020

The CB55 Plus Centre remains closed until further notice.
Given our demographic being a higher risk and the guidelines for group gatherings and physical distancing (“groups of around 2 to 6 and preferably outdoors”) there are no plans to open the Centre at this time. The Board continues to be in contact and will monitor and follow the Government and Public Health directives and guidelines and keep you informed of any changes.

While we will continue to miss socializing together at the Centre and within our groups, there may be other ways to carry on some of our activities and stay connected via videoconferencing and small groups outdoors. Please check out the Groups tab above and the News section of the Summer edition of the Blue Heron News for updates on what groups are doing. Thank you to Brenda Hurd and Judy Burgoyne for their ongoing work in producing the newsletter.

I hope you are enjoying the Weekly Update conceived to keep us connected. Thank you to Sue Jergens, Jan Grewar and Patricia Huston for the fine job they are doing on putting this together.

We have added two new tabs on the CB55+ website: “Weekly Updates” to enable you to easily access the Updates and any links they contain, and “Member Contributions”. The Member Contributions tab are where we will place member submissions to share with other members. There are member’s short stories, poems and pictures for you to enjoy. We invite you to send along something that you would like to share, e.g. your stories, poems or other creations. Send your submissions to one of the Communications Team listed in the Weekly Updates. Thank you to David Squance for keeping our website updated.
