CB55+’s Intergenerational Program allows our members to share their skills, knowledge and experience with the students of Cordova Bay Elementary School. After being shut down for two years because of the pandemic, the program is ready to restart on a limited basis.
Support a Reader Program
Senior mentors sit with individual students on a one-on-one basis to listen to them read and provide a supportive environment for the students to practice their reading skills. Teachers identify students in their class that will benefit from participating in the program along with suitable books for their reading level. Both our members and the students have found it very rewarding.
In the past the time commitment for this program is one half hour, one day per week. A Criminal Record Check is required to participate in this program as we are working individually with students. If you are interested in taking part, please contact Von Bishop at vonandjane@shaw.ca.
Games Program
This is a drop-in program that the school children can attend during their lunch time recess. It involves playing board games with children or supervising them as they enjoy playing with lego or blocks. This year the program will run from 11:10 to 11:55 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays – as a mentor you choose which day you would like to commit to. The seniors enjoy it as much as the kids.
Please contact Pat Ball at pball@shaw.ca if you would like to participate in the program.
Introduction to Pickleball Program
CB 55+ pickleball players instruct Grade 4 and 5 students to learn and play the sport of pickleball over a four-week period.
Note – this program will be offered in the spring of 2023.
