Don’t forget to buy your tickets soon for the CB55+ luncheon on Friday, November 5th, from 11 to 3 pm. There is only room for 50 members at this event. $10 gives you wonderful soup, sandwich, tea, and a goodie. Tickets are available after Tuesday Drop-In via Pauline Cohen or Shirley Metters. The deadline for ticket sales is Oct. 29. Come and enjoy a lovely afternoon at CB Place!
A new Discussion Group is starting on Thursday, November 4, for 6 weeks, from 9 to 10 am in the Studio, for interested members. This group is organized by the Canadian Earth Institute, and will focus on how we think grow, buy, prepare, and consume food. The group will explore food systems and their impacts on culture, society, and ecological systems, and help us gain insight into agricultural and individual practices that promote personal and ecological well-being. It will help each of us to consider our role in creating or supporting sustainable food systems. There is no instructor for the discussion group; rather each participant takes turns in facilitating the group discussion. The only cost is the manual (around $25), which provides readings each week to focus the discussion. Space is limited, so contact Brenda Hurd (658-6484) or Val Murray (658-4289) to sign up and for more information.
We wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving holiday, with lots of turkey and all the trimmings! Please note that CB Place will not be open on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 11, so there will not be any classes in Stretch & Strength and Spanish, and the Men’s Group will not be meeting, either.
Have a look at what’s happening in the Courtyard! It’s starting to look pretty snazzy with the new paving stones and such!
Don’t forget to get your ticket for the November 5th luncheon and tea. For only $10/person, you will get a delicious bowl of soup and sandwich, and a sweet with you tea! Tickets are on sale at CB Place, and space is limited, so don’t delay!
Come on down to CB Place, all you interested men, to join a new social group, every Monday afternoon, starting October 4, from 2:30 to 4 pm, in the Big Room! Activities, such as table tennis, darts, chess etc. will be available as well as stimulating conversation, or just come and have a coffee. Other activities may be planned based on the interest of the group such as golf on the ridge. We are open to suggestions, and looking forward to getting out of the house, which works for our wives as well! Come and join this exclusive group!
Fall courses have started at CB Place, and groups are also getting into full swing, so join something or several things for your fitness, learning, social enjoyment, and just plain fun! If you want to do something that is not being offered at this time, let a Board member know, and we’ll try to find others who share your interests. Don’t forget to come to Tuesday Drop-In on September 21, and learn how to prevent falls. The expert speaker will be Laurie Mueller, the Executive Director of Glenshiel Care. See you all soon at CB Place!
Friday, August 27, from 9 am until 3 pm, the Hiking Group will be hosting our annual car rally. We will start and end at CB Place, and in between we’ll be travelling all over the Saanich Penninsula, following directions, answering questions, and collecting ribbons at checkpoints. Prizes will be awarded in different categories, followed by a delicious lunch. The cost for this event is $6.00 per person. With your friends, form a crew of four per car, or just register at CB Place, and we will assign you to a car. It’ll be lots of fun, so please plan to attend.
