Winter session runs from Jan 9 to Feb 27.
Spring session runs from April 16 to June 11.
Our Association has had a target pistol shooting group for the last 3 years. We call ourselves the “Hot Shots”, although we don’t always live up to the name. The group meets on Monday mornings at the Cordova Bay Community Centre on Sutcliffe Rd, off Cordova Bay Road. It is usually referred to as the “badminton hall”. We meet in the basement.
A quick overview of what we do – we use Daisy 717 target air pistols on a 10 meter range. They are single shot and you load them yourself. The whole operation is well regulated with a strong emphasis on safety. We all sign waivers. We are about 50% men and women and the emphasis is social, fun and, oh, yes, accuracy!
We run 3, 8 week sessions per year, fall, winter, and spring. The group owns its own pistols so our only costs are to cover the rental of the facility and any costs for pistol maintenance. It works out to about $10.00 per 8 week session but depends on the number of participants. There is an additional charge of $1.00 each time we shoot to pay for pellets and targets.
We have seven shooting positions on our range. An ideal number of participants would be between 10 and 14. That allows for a good rotation and also recognizes the fact that members will be away on occasion. We are seniors and we do travel! So now is the time to register for the next session. Do not worry if you have never held a pistol before! Advice and assistance will be available! To register, just email me at phillps.m@shaw.ca. Or phone me at 658-2702. I will also place a Hot Shots sign-up sheet in our Centre. If you have questions, call me! If you are unsure, why not take a trial run – just drop by and see what we do and take a shot or two to get the feel of it. This group is run for the benefit of all members of our Association and we encourage your participation.
